The Israeli vineyard: innovative for 6000 years!
Winegrowers have always been explorers of flavours on this land. Testimonies dating back more than 6 millennia, such as rock vats and presses dating back to the highest antiquity, bear witness to this. But in the 7th century, the Ottoman occupation put a brutal end to this glorious tradition of winemaking. It was only 1200 years later that Baron Edmond de Rothschild created Carmel Mizrachi in 1882. Now Carmel Winery: from which more than 15 million bottles a year come from 2 main production centres: one located in Zichron Yaakov, on the slopes of Mount Carmel, the other in Rishon Le Zion, south of Tel Aviv.
The first Cabernet Sauvignon wines arrived in 1976, followed closely in the 1980s by wines with rich woody tones of Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese from Tuscany, Syrah, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Tempranillo, Rolls du Vinsoble de la Rioja and Sauvignon. ”
A place in the sun of the planetary vine greeted by the world star of wine critics Robert Parker himself. Since 2008, its tastings have included more than twenty Israeli wines… The latest achievement to date: the highly acclaimed entry of an Israeli wine into the top 100 of the famous magazine “Wine spectator”.
